Margaret Hodge, Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Media & Sport claimed last week that the world famous classical music festival The Proms is “too white”.

She claimed that ethnic minorities don’t feel comfortable at The Proms event as the waving of Union Jacks and rousing chorus of Rule Britannia do not represent today’s multi-cultural society.

Is she not being just as insulting to “ethnic minorities” in assuming that classical music makes them “uncomfortable”, as she is to white Britons by making such a ridiculous statement?

Is she right?

Or is the MP from Barking just barking mad?
